Charlotte vs. Raleigh

I took an informal survey while party-hopping today to see which city CIAA fans liked better.

The reaction was mixed. Some people said Raleigh was better and was way more hype than Charlotte. And several said the crowd seemed smaller. Others said they liked Charlotte better because everything was centralized.

Most people said parking was horrible. Everyone said the city of Charlotte has been extremely hospitable. One guy said even the cops were nice. (What! Just kidding Mr. Policeman.)

"Charlotte seemed like they laid out the red carpet for us," said Fred Jones, 39, of Maryland. "It looks like Charlotte, they're trying to get this here for many more years."

Andre Willingham of New York said he liked Raleigh better. Then he reeled off a list of bars and parties that he said were jumping by Friday afternoon during the tournament in Raleigh.

The problem with Charlotte, several people said, is that it's a new city and there are so many events going on.

"Once people find their way, Charlotte is going to be off the hook," said Derek Morris of Richmond. "It's going to be better than Raleigh."

What do you think? How does Charlotte compare to Raleigh so far? Post your replies below.

As a graduate of JCSU, I am happy to have the CIAA hosted in the Queen City. I must agree that even the police are extremely hospitable. I personally had my car towed during RACE week in '98 and a cop was standing there when I parked!! It would have been nice to be told that I couldn't park in the normally permitted location. I watched a cop warn a guy last night. Thanks for remembering to protect & "serve."

Charlotte was clearly the better location for the tournament. People forget how bad the traffic in Raleigh was too. If someone liked Raliegh better then I guess they liked sitting in traffic to get in and out of the RBC center, having to drive 30 minutes to your hotel or to get something to eat, or having to drive 30 minutes between parties in Raleigh and Durham. In Charlotte, I was able to park my car Saturday around noon, have lunch, walk to a day party, walk to the arena, then walk to an afterparty when the games let out. And no one can complain about the quality of the parties because Charlotte basically had the same promoters (and more) from all the past CIAAs in Raleigh.

CHARLOTTE...Without a doubt!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Omni - we parked and never moved our vehicle again until we left on Sunday afternoon. We partied everywhere and didn't need to drive once....All of the activities and parties were great - it was SO much to do.
Charlotte stands above the rest!
Who wants to drive everytime you go somewhere?
