Chasing Tiger

Tiger Woods smacked the ball, teeing off at hole #10. A crowd of people huddled near the ropes and they were at least four deep. All I saw were backs and bottoms. I headed down the fairway hoping to get a better spot for Tiger's next shot.

I spotted Observer photographer Patrick Schneider jog-walking down the fairway. Schneider wielded a camera with a giant lens and an even bigger tripod, but he brushed past fans as if he were empty-handed. I dipped in behind Schneider hoping I could angle past fans for a closer glimpse of Tiger. Schneider broke into a jog-sprint. I'm too cool for that. I'll see El Tigre on television.

Well, golf fans. I'm out of here.

Yeah, but most of the world cares more about Tiger than anyone else.

actually, the media makes the rest of the world care about only tiger... if they covered other golfers with the same zeal it could be anyone else. i'm not taking anything from tiger, just pointing out there are others on the tour that have equal talent.

What a waste of bandwidth this "blog" is. When will the Observer wise up and dismiss this embarrassment of a "reporter?"

Welcome Tonya! And try to disregard the adolescent nullities that are bound to crawl to the surface of your blog, and do their level best to reduce you to their level. Erase them, or put them on ignore.

If a gift is not accepted, it goes back to the one giving it. Don't accept their "gifts".

I found you through John Robinson of Greensboro News and Record, who had said Ed Cone mentioned you on his blog. Both, if you don't know already, are great sources for inspiration, as you flesh out this new baby of yours and the Observer's. McBride can also offer his experiences in the blogosphere.

Get hooked up at NCblogs.com, and other aggregators. We're a fairly supportive group of intellectuals and creatives in the main, and are typically generous with our time and knowledge...as I suspect are you.

So glad the Observer is testing the waters, spreading its wings. And still well before the clear majority of newspapers.

There are many fine and excellent giants in Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Asheville, here in Charlotte, and, well that's about it. Actually, there are a few more places, but the main activity seems to happening in the aforementioned centers of learning and sharing.

Consider. The average blogger has been on the Internet for 6 years. As someone who as been on for 11 years, I can tell you that those who have been on for 6 years, are quite savvy, in the main. And the ones I know are well above average in intelligence and character. North Carolina has more than its share of giants.

Three cheers for the Observer, with whom I have struggled to get to blogging. (Granted, they have taught me way more than I could ever teach them.) Now they ought to open it wide up, for they, and you, are being watched now, around America, and around the world.

Observing the Observer.

I think you'll do fine.
