Apparently, I missed a heck-of-a show at Coyote Joe’s on Wednesday morning.
I arrived about 10:15 p.m. and stayed until after midnight. I went to see if the latest “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks was going to make a “surprise” appearance to support his former band LiMBO.
He did.
After the concert at Bobcats Arena, Taylor stopped by Coyote Joe’s about midnight Wednesday. (By the way, Taylor ate at Morton's uptown on Tuesday before the "Idol" concert.)
He walked to the side of the stage, snapped a few pictures of the band, shook hands with the sax player, waved to fans and left.
The band started playing again. Fans chanted “Taylor! Taylor!”
Finalist Ace Young showed up and was the perfect distraction. He posed for pictures with women and hugged whoever could reach him.
The crowd was a mix of Old Navy-moms, Aeropostle-twenty-somethings and Stetson-men. Everyone jockeyed for pictures with their digital cameras.
By the time Ace came out, I figured Taylor wasn’t coming back so I left. My bad.
Taylor, Ace, Elliott Yamin and others took the stage about 1:30 a.m. and performed for about 30 minutes, according to club owner Alan Presley. He called it “American Idol” at Coyote Joe’s.
I can only imagine.
By the way, Taylor's presence pulled the crowd out for LiMBO, but that band can stand on its own. They’re energetic and play boogie-woogie blues that makes you want to dance. If they play the Visulite Theatre or Double Door Inn, they’d be worth seeing.
Did you go to Coyote Joe's last night? What did you think?

Ummm... if you would have stayed longer and not so quick to judge, you would have seen Taylor take the stage a little after midnight and play for over an hour. And you would have seen Elliott, Ace and Bucky join him on stage as well... I stayed all night and it was the best show I've seen all year. The band was energetic and was having a blast for the fans and Taylor did not disappoint. The added bonus of the other Idols was just a special bonus for the die-hard fans that didn't lose faith that Taylor would take the stage.
To bad you left so early last night...from what I understand Taylor played and sang his heart out!! You missed your chance to be TAYLORIZED!!
It was like worshiping in the church of music. It was an awesome night. Taylor also hung around after his performance to sign stuff and take about a million pics with people. He left the building at 2:20am. LiMBO is awesome and it was crazy in there. Much better than Bobcats Arena....
Awww, too bad you left, you missed the one and only, Taylor Hicks!!!!!! If I was there, I would have stayed the whole night, sorry you didn't.
We went to Coyote Joe's after the concert and it was so worth the wait. Being able to see Taylor, Bucky, Ace and Elliott up close and meet them plus seeing another "concert" was amazing!!

This was the most incredible show ever! I saw the whole American Idol show in Richmond, but this was soooo much better! It was completely worth the drive down from VA!!! If you were patient and waited it out, Taylor arrived by 11:15 or so and was there until almost 2:30. He came out and played in two segments, after he did the little wave at the folks segment. He played for one really long stretch of time at the end of the night and Ace, Bucky, and Elliott were just icing on the cake! Being just a couple of feet from the whole gang was a treat to behold. They were all very charismatic on the little stage together just having fun. Taylor was ever so gracious as he invited them up and jammed with them and the band. LIMBO was awesome as well and so friendly before and after the show. I am so impressed with this American Idol season, Taylor, of course, and LIMBO! You REALLY missed it!!!!! They were all really terrific signing things and snapping a million photos and just being friendly and cute with everyone! It was like winning the American Idol Lottery!
For those that missed it I did capture a little bit of it on my video phone. I have exclusive video from the performance at coyote-joe's. Just let me know.

I had a great time @ Coyote Joe's. I got there around 11:30 after getting something to eat after the concert, and took my place up front with the other Soul Patrollers. LiMBO was an awesome band. I'll be honest, even if Taylor wasn't there (and I'm a huge Taylor fan), I would have been quite happy just grooving to them. But Taylor coming out was like the icing on the cake. It was great seeing him in his 'element'. Small stage, his band, all out. I ended up leaving after his first set because, honestly, I was tired and still had to be at work the next morning. I'm glad he came back out and even though I missed the second set, I'm happy I was lucky enough to see the honky tonk side of Taylor (and Elliot).
SORRY I WASN'T THERE BUT IF YOU GO TO: TAYLOR HICKS FAN.COM AND JOIN UP AS ONE OF US "SOUL PATROLLERS", YOU CAN SEE THE VIDEO FROM THAT VERY NIGHT FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT VIDEOS TAKEN. IT'S A GREAT WEB SITE AND KEEPS US UP TO DATE ON TAYLOR AND THE FOLKS YOU MEET THERE LOVE HIM SO YOU'RE ALWAYS IN GOOD COMPANY... CHECK IT OUT AND ENJOY!
The only thing I've seen Taylor Hicks do since winning that karaoke contest is a cheesy Ford commercial.
All you "Soul patrollers" are bleating sheep, too dumb to decide for yourself if something's good or not, so you let the media decide for you, gobbling up whatever television force feeds you.
Dear Sir
I can see that you don't understand the draw to Hicks. That's fine.
However, I would argue that the fans of Taylor (yes, I'm one) and of American Idol might actually be on to something.
Kelly Clarkson is now the winner of a Grammy. Clay Aiken is on his second album. Actually Taylor was a struggling musician for years and cut his own CD called Under the Radar. I enjoyed it and even more now, since I know he also wrote several of the songs as well as performed them.
Quality is in the eyes of beholder-after all, Air Supply has a few #1 hits for Goodness sake!
I'll take Taylor over any of the erotic/explicit lyrics that blast from the radio daily. My kids can safely listen to Taylor's music as well as watch the American Idol.
Being involved with American Idol is called being aware of Pop culture and it's actually - Oh, I don't know - kind of a fun and nice diversion from war, crime and terrorism that faces us daily.
So, is American Idol necessarily going to give us the next Ray Charles, Sophie Tucker, Janis Joplin, Diana Krall, Kurt Cobain or whoever floats your boat? Who knows?
What I do know it gives me is something entertaining and communal. The audience can play a small part in helping someone realize their dream. Who could ask for more? Taylor is now living his dream and didn't give up.
How many of us can say that?
