Standing in the back of a Charlotte Convention Center conference room this morning, I had flashbacks. The last week of February into the first few days of March were a blur of day parties, night parties, early morning breakfast stops, celebrities, traffic jams and basketball.
Yep, it's time to start talking about the CIAA's return to Charlotte Feb. 25-March 3. Last year, was a good debut for the city. Next year should be even better.
This morning organizers unveiled the new logo and had a ra-ra session to get the city excited about the tournament's return. Starting Sept. 1 you can log on to www.ciaatournament.org to buy tickets.

I'm really not looking forward to the CIAA being in Charlotte again next year or any other year..... too many brothers in one place = potential problems.
Plus, it didn't turn out to be the economic boost our diversity-obsessed city government said it was going to be, not even close.
All in all, I guess the CIAA attracts a better crowd than Black biker week in Myrtle Beach, or God forbid some type of "FreakNik" festival that plagued Atlanta for so many years.
It bothers me that the black community gets so 'possessive' about any event bigger than the "Universal Soul Circus" and uses said opportunity to adopt a "take-over" strategy upon a certain area and dare someone to take issue with thier overbearing and thinly-veiled divisive behavior.

How can we get it back to Raleigh? The parking woes make it so frustrating. I had more enjoyment when it was in Raleigh. Wow! Those were the memories of CIAA.
Wow, for 51 weeks of the year Uptown Charlotte is snow white. Get a grip and find something else to do. Buck up, you still have speed street, a parade of drunk white hillbillies.
People like Sheldon Fincannon are the reason why Charlotte will never become an international city. Narrow minded people like Sheldon prevents the city from growing. A world class company would never be headquartered in a city that does not embrace the world. Cities like Raleigh, Atlanta and Houston are thrive because they've embraced the world and their major news paper does not promote racial wars.
Furthermore, most of the Observer's Blogs promote racial cat fights. They are an embarrassment to the city.
Hopefully, CIAA organizers don't have any fireworks displays planned.
We don't need the CIAA in Charlotte, we need the NCAA Final Four. The people that the CIAA draws absolutly suck! They don't tip the waiters that take care of them and they all complain about every damn thing they can think of. Please send it back to Raleigh.
Let's all ignore the dumb comments from the young kids typing on their mother and father's computers. Back to the subject at hand. Yes Tonya, to real "CIAA'ers" its never too early to start planning and thinking about next year. This year was the best tournament ever (sorry Raleigh readers) and fans can't wait to come back. Next year will be bigger and better than ever. I can't wait.

I can't believe the racial comments that are being posted. I thought we moved past all of that. Of course the CIAA is going to draw a crowd that is majority African American but that is because they tournament is for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Come on people let come to the realization that times are changing, Charlotte is growing..
Can't we all just get along? It's about time this city stepped up to the plate and brought some diversity uptown. The whole "too many black people in one place is bound to cause problems" mentality is destructive and just plain ol tired. CIAA '06 is the 2nd best time i have had in all the CIAA tournaments i have attended (the 1st was when JCSU won the championship...go Bulls!!). It was a peaceful gathering of people who love their alma maters dearly and the tradition of the tournament. I can't wait for CIAA 07!! My suggestion for negative people like Mr. Fincannon and others is just stay the heck away from uptown Feb. 25 - March 3, cause we don't need the DRAMA!
I think eventually Charlotte will get to the point where diversity will be embraced and we won't have to deal with narrow-minded nimrods like that Sheldon fellow or all the other bigots that are always trolling these blogs, especially with more blacks and hispanics continuing to move here, that cannot be ignored. You will have to provide offer more options for that changing and growing demograhic. Charlotte can't stay white and conservative forever. I'm excited for the CIAA being in Charlotte and hope to have a chance to go when it's in town that last week in February-early part in March.
