Bobcats arena the best?

Did you hear that according to Pollstar magazine, the Charlotte Bobcats Arena has been nominated as one of the best new concert venues of the year. Winners will be announced in Vegas Feb. 15.

In past blogs, I've written about us being excluded from other national list. We finally got some major recognition from a respected publication, but I have a feeling some Charlotte concert-goers don't think the new Bobcats arena should be so highly regarded.

I saw the Rolling Stones there, and I had a good time, but I've heard from several people who aren't impressed. The biggest complaint is overpriced food, which is expected, and bad acoustics.

Urban Vixen, who saw U2 in Houston, said the sound was muffled at the Charlotte show, and the Edge's guitar wasn't crisp and lacked depth. At the Dolly Parton concert, Urban Vixen said you could barely hear Parton's vocals.

What do you guys think? Have you been to the new arena and do you think it should be considered one of the best in the country?

there is a clear difference when acts use their equipment as opposed to the bobcats sounds system. The building was prewired for concerts and so when bands come in the turn it allll the way up not realizing the arena was built acoustically friendly and not like a concrete box.

either way bob is gettin the loot.

and menage sucks...so sad lateezy is going to have to sooner or later pay to have al sharpton bless his club to get peeps to come back.

Long live Forum!

When concerts come the Arena they dont use the sound system installed in the Arena.

Blame all the sound problems on the acts. They SHOULD use the sound system but DONT....

I have to agree with what the previous people said....maybe that was a flaw in the design, since most groups are more comfortable with their own equipment.

I saw Dolly at the new arena, and I have to say it is a much improved sound system when compared to the old coliseum. In reading the first couple of post here, I did not know the new arena is "pre-wired" for concerts. I bet most arenas are not pre-wired, therefore when a band plays the new arena they just opt to not use the "pre wired" technology since they are not used to playing with that type of sound system. Since Dolly Parton's concert focused more on her voice instead of an entire band (U2, Rolling Stones, etc), the quality was perfect. I have also seen a couple of Bobcats games, and I have to say the new arena is perfect for games! Every seat in the house has a good view.

I haven't even been to the new arena yet. But considering it is one of the most recent arenas built in the United States, hell yeah we should be in the top contention. If we weren't that is a slap in the face to the builders and contractors. As far as the sound, I agree with the other two. Use the sound system in the arena or turn it down and let the room work the sound...

The U2 show started out sounding muffled because there was some sort of problem with the sound system, but by the 4th song it was clear and sharp. The arena is very nice, but I agree that the vendors are trying to get rich off of the concert goers...we paid $85 for a beer I think...oh wait, that was for 2 beers.

I saw Elton at the arena and in my opinion the sound was great. Of course maybe it's different since although he had a band, most of the focus of the sound was from his piano, but I was really impressed.

The Elton John concert had perfect sound - could not have been better. I've seen the Rolling Stones a few times, and something about how their sound man mixes the mikes always makes them sound muddy to me. But, as far as I'm concerned, the Elton John concert proved the arena is capable of hosting crisp clear sound.

ok...Don't mean to hijack your blog, but a comment about why Charlotteans don't drink the cute champagne-in-a-can drinks....(Mini Sophies, I think? It was in Friday's business section)

Here's my reasoning:

In LA, the last year I was there, all I ever drank was champagne when we were out at bars. At parties, we'd drink microbrew beer and wine. And btw, I was POOR!!! So all this stuff was cheap because I was poor. I was a grad student and made squat for a salary. I'm still poor, but that's a whole nother story....

Here, at the "upscale" parties I've been to, people drink Miller Lite in a plastic bottle. WTF?

((((((sigh))))))) I still miss a easy cheap glass of champagne.

So when are we going to get a Trader Joe's around here so we can get these new trends????
